I finally finished up Dean’s big boy room and I’m so excited to reveal it to you guys! I’ve linked all of the pieces that I could (and similar pieces for those that I couldn’t). Toddler boy bedroom ideas are hard to come by. I’m hoping that this boy bedroom design gives you a little inspiration for whatever you’re working on!
I have to say, there are two things I think I still want to change about this room. One being that I have a rug on my wishlist. It’s currently on backorder but it’s a great navy blue rug by Momeni and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
The rug in these photos is actually from Dean’s old room, and it was never supposed to be there in the first place – ha! When we lived in our old house I bought this neutral rug for our dining room. It ended up being too small but when we moved to this house it worked for Dean’s bedroom. It was supposed to be temporary and here we are two years later.
The second thing I think I want to do in this room is install a wallpaper on the main wall where his headboard is. I just haven’t found one that I think is perfect for his big boy room yet.
Toddler Boy Room Design
I wanted Dean’s big boy bedroom to still be sweet and soothing. I have always loved a slate blue color, so I had to incorporate it somehow. I love the seersucker comforter with just enough blue paired with his black bed for high contrast. It ties in with the rest of our house as I’ve done some black accents (like our DIY remodel black fireplace) throughout our home. My design style has been leaning a little more coastal lately so the blue, the wood color of his nightstands, and the natural baskets we used for his toys help to bring in a little bit of coastal detail.
Bedroom Details – Blue Contrast Trim
One thing that I think really makes this room unique is the contrast trim. I’m loving this design trend and wanted to try it in Dean’s room. I love a white wall (our anchor color for the whole house is Sherwin Williams Alabaster). But I wanted to add a little bit of color in here. So a blue contrast trim worked perfectly. It took a few tries to find the right shade of blue. We ended up doing a custom color that I think makes the perfect blue-grey for Dean’s space.
Boy Bedroom Decor
I found a lot of the details for this toddler boy bedroom from Etsy. I loved finding these train prints and this Long Live Boyhood Banner. The details are what make this room so special because they’re sweet and simple and a little bit adventurous. I also love the acrylic floating bookshelves we got for his room. They’re a little trendy but can easily be changed if I decide to go for a wooden bookshelf instead. I’ve linked as many of the decor details for Dean’s little boy bedroom below!
Toddler Boy Classic Bedroom Design with Trendy Details
Like I said before, I loved finding most of the decor and details for this boy room. I think when designing a space for kids, It’s important to keep the room cohesive and friendly with the rest of your home and your decor style. I don’t incorporate a lot of trendy decor pieces. I tend to like a modern traditional style and that’s what I went for in Dean’s blue boys bedroom. It’s not too much – it doesn’t have anything majorly trendy that can’t easily be changed. The details are where I got to play with trends – the banners, the contrast trim, etc. And I love how it turned out!
I’ll keep you guys updated as I change any details (crossing my fingers for that rug). If you have any questions about Dean’s room, send me a DM on Instagram! I’d love to connect with you. And don’t forget to save this post to Pinterest for future reference.
