Wow guys! We just got back from the coolest farm and pumpkin patch I have ever seen in Kearney, Missouri. As you guys know, our family is moving to Kansas City for Dale’s new job, which is in Kearney. So on Dale’s first day of his new job, Dean and I were out exploring the area and hunting for new neighborhoods. Someone told me about a really good Pumpkin Patch farm that was in Kearney, and I had kind of forgotten about it until we drove right by it. I decided, what the heck, we’re here and we don’t have a lot to do. Plus, I didn’t want to be cooped up in the hotel all day with a 3-year-old. I will say, tickets are not cheap but with ALL there is to do at the Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch, it is 100% worth it. You can also purchase tickets online ahead of time and save $4-5 a ticket.
Let me lay out all of the fall family activities and kid-friendly attractions there are to do at the Fun Farm in Kearney, Missouri. You guys, I kid you not, I think my jaw dropped when we walked through the entrance. It is huge- absolutely massive- and you could stay for a whole DAY and not get bored. We even debated going back that evening with Dale (tickets are good for the entire day, in case you need to leave and come back!)
Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch in Kearney, Missouri
Giant Slide
Have you seen those giant white slides that you slide down on a piece of burlap or felt? Fun Farm has the biggest one I think I’ve ever seen. I’ve always wanted to do one of these massive slides but honestly the sight of this one made my knees a little weak. But my brave 3-year-old wanted to do it, so I pulled up my big girl panties and went for it. It was so fun we did it twice. We probably could have done it more times but it was a HIKE up the hill and I didn’t want Dean’s legs to get too tired before we explored the rest of the farm.
Corn Maze and Corn Pit
There is a corn maze at the Fun Farm. Apparently they re-configure it year after year so it never gets old. This would be so fun to do with older kids (who understand mazes) and it’s great for adults too. There’s also a corn pit for the younger kiddos – think ball pit, but with corn kernels. Such a fun sensory activity for littles!
Treehouse Village
They may actually have another name for this but I called it the treehouse village because that’s exactly what it looks like. It’s a bunch of play houses with fun windows and doors that open and close, but up in the air like treehouses. They’re all connected by a massive deck so adults can go up easily to supervise and help kids go from house to house. There are also a bunch of slides that come down from various spots, so it’s basically one massive backyard playhouse!
Fun Farm Petting Zoo
What fun would a farm be without a petting zoo? You don’t actually go in the enclosures with the animals but they will come right up to you at the fence for a pet. Goats, pigs, sheep, donkeys, and more make this petting zoo one of the best I’ve seen at a pumpkin patch. You can also buy feed or carrots to give the animals!
Hayrides and Kiddie Train Rides
Fun Farm offers hayrides, but we didn’t get to go on one. However, Dean did do this really cute little train ride which is basically a bunch of cow-disguised barrels on wheel attached to the back of a tractor. It’s a short ride so perfect for kids around 2-6 years old. Dean went by himself and it was totally fine because they just make a small loop. Next time, we definitely want to do a hayride!
Fun Farm American Ninja Warrior Course
New this year (2021) to the Fun Farm pumpkin patch is the American Ninja Warrior Course. It’s made of low-level obstacles that most kids 3+ can safely play on. Since they are low to the ground, falls aren’t a big worry but most of these obstacles do require balance and strength. I did keep Dean (3) off of a few that I wasn’t comfortable with him doing, but most five year olds would be totally fine to do this alone. I walked through alongside Dean to assist him with some of the harder obstacles. Such a fun feature at this pumpkin patch farm! There are also a bunch of tractor tires stacked up (almost like a pyramid) for kids to climb on, and lots of huge tractor tire swings throughout the farm.
Jumbo Jumper
If you’ve ever seen a bounce house or one of those giant jumpers on a lake, that’s basically what this is, but on dry land. They have two jumbo jumpers for kids to climb and jump on. This is so fun and not something I’ve seen at any other pumpkin patch!
Apple and Pumpkin Picking
Fun Farm does have off-the-vine pumpkins you can choose from, along with a whole shop of gifts and locally made goodies. But if you’re looking for more adventure, you can choose to go out into the pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins from the vine. If you make it out early enough in the season, you can also do some apple picking from the orchard. But, apples do run out. They were no longer doing apple picking when we got there (mid-October). They also have a HUGE selection of beautiful mums to choose from while you’re there. You can get everything you need for your fall front porch at the Fun Farm in Kearney, Missouri!
There are several other attractions I didn’t include in this post, like carnival games and a trike track for kids. It also looked like they were working on putting in an actual train ride for the kids. We saw a couple of (small) train engines and cars- smaller than they have at the zoo- but the area was under construction.
