Hey friends! Today I’m sharing my skincare steps for my morning routine! I’m going to preface all of this by saying, I am not your doctor or esthetician. You should definitely always check with a medical professional if you’re having any sort of issues with your skin! But I love that these products cleanse, protect, brighten, and prime my skin, and I love that they’re all good for most skin types!
I don’t say this to boast, but I often get compliments on how smooth and nice my skin looks. My last facial didn’t even require any extractions. I’m saying this because I want you guys to know that good skincare really works!
I’m so passionate about taking good care of my face, because I want it to be healthy and beautiful until I’m well into my elderly years! So, I’m stepping up my beauty-content game hoping that it’ll be beneficial to you guys too. Over the years I have slowly been upping my skincare arsenal because honestly, it’s just a good investment to make. I could save money by buying drugstore items, sure. In my opinion, I t’s such a waste to spend money on a product if it’s not doing what it says it’s going to do. That’s why I invest in good skincare with ingredients that really work.
I also want to add that every once-in-a-while I add or substitute certain products because I love trying out new products to see if they really work. The products I’m sharing today are in my morning routine right now, but I will note which products are permanent staples for me!
My Favorite Skincare Professional to Follow
There are a couple of Instagram accounts I have followed over the years that have taught me so much about beauty and skincare. My favorite skincare professional by far is Jordan Harper! I found her through another blogger I follow, and she has been so fun to learn from. She also has a daughter that is close to Dean in age, so it’s fun to see her family posts too. I should add I don’t know her personally, but I wanted to share her since I have learned so much from her!
I also love to follow medical spas on Instagram. Usually those accounts post about the treatments they offer, and I learn a lot just by browsing their feeds! These accounts also occasionally post about new/medical grade skincare products that they suggest, so I gain a lot of skincare knowledge that way. I love learning about the science behind products and WHY they really work.
Skincare Products
Here are the skincare products I use each morning in the order that I use them! I’m also sharing these because, while your skincare products should be specific to your skincare needs, all of these steps are great for EVERY SKIN TYPE. They’re gentle and perfect for sensitive skin, but also very effective. These products come highly recommended by several Nurse/Estheticians and I have done a lot of research on them.
Step 1 –
Tula Pro-Glycolic 10% PH Resurfacing Gel – This is a toner with glycolic acid that sweeps away dead skin, dirt, oil, etc. without drying the skin. It’s how I cleanse my face in the morning. I prefer not to wash my face every morning to prevent drying. (Washing your face too much can cause oily skin, breakouts, etc. from drying it out.) I love this Resurfacing Gel as my first step because it leaves my skin feeling bright and clean!
Step 2 –
Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% is my second step. This is a Vitamin C serum that has anti-aging benefits. The hyaluronic acid is a vital ingredient because it helps the skin stay moisturized. Vitamin C brightens your overall skin tone and decreases the appearance of darks spots. It also helps protect against free-radicals like UV rays, encourages collagen production, and helps with skin elasticity. This is a skincare staple for me because the ingredients are SO good for the skin. I use about 6 drops all over my face and neck each day. This stuff has changed the overall tone and quality of my skin and it’s totally worth the investment!
Step 3 –
EltaMD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 – This sunscreen is the queen of sunscreens. EltaMD does not have the sunscreen smell or greasy texture. It’s the lightest-weight sunscreen I’ve ever worn but I can tell it really covers well. I’ve seen a huge decrease in my sun damage since I’ve been using this. (I’ve used it a little over a year I think.) This sunscreen protects against UVA & UVB rays, and can triple as a moisturizer and primer underneath your makeup. It’s now a staple in my routine!
Step 4 –
My last step is usually an under-eye brightening cream of some sort. Lately I have been really hooked on this Tula Under-Eye Brightening Balm, but I also really like this Becca Anti-Fatigue Under-Eye Balm. Both have a cooling effect, which feels so refreshing. The Tula balm actually leaves a highlighted sheen under the eyes, which is more of a makeup effect. The Becca balm does a really good job of priming the skin and keeps concealer from caking in your creases/fine lines. Each does a really good job of brightening up the eyes, though, so I would highly recommend either of them.
That’s all!
That’s It! Just four, really simple steps to cleansing, brightening, protecting, and priming the skin to start my day. I love that I only have to use four products and am still certain that my skin is well taken care of.
I hope that maybe this helped you learn a little bit about what a morning skincare routine should consist of and why these steps are important! Choosing the right skincare products used to make me feel like a lost puppy, before I really started researching them. Now, understanding why they work helps me so much to be able to decide which products are important and which are unnecessary!
