Surprise! Baby Minschwaner is a girl! How many of you guessed correctly? I’ve been so excited to share this news with you all, but wanted to do it with our nursery design reveal! When I was thinking about a girl’s nursery I originally thought I wanted a pretty mauve color for the walls or a moody berry color. But after trying ALL the samples, we landed on a light blue girl’s nursery. I wanted something unique and I knew that a feminine, light blue nursery would be just right.
I scoured Pinterest for inspiration and found only two blue girl’s nurseries. While I loved them both, I wanted to make the space my own and get creative with it. So today I’m sharing all of the details of our feminine light blue girl’s nursery.
Blue Girl’s Nursery Design
Blue Girl’s Room Paint Color
I knew with a blue nursery I wanted a blue paint color that was soft and calming. I had the idea of going monochromatic with the doors, trim, and adding crown moulding. I also am very picky about blue paint so I knew I had to get the shade just right! I wanted it to a be a blue that wouldn’t be overwhelming or too “baby blue”. Enter Benjamin Moore French Toile.
It’s the perfect blue that’s not too dusty and not too bright. I ended up getting it decreased by 50% to keep the room lighter since we only have corner windows in this room. After trying several other shades of blue paint, I knew as soon as I painted the sample on that I loved it! We used our Wagner paint sprayer to do the detail work on the doors and crown moulding. It was so much faster than brushing it all on!
If you’re wanting to skip the hassle of painting on samples, I would highly recommend using Samplize to order paint color samples. I actually used them for several other paint samples first. I’ve used Samplize in other rooms in our house too and have been very happy with the accuracy. The fast shipping is great too! Samplize paint samples are around the same price as a paint sample from the hardware store, but you don’t have to dirty any paint brushes or make any messes!
Nursery Furniture
I found our beautiful refinished antique dresser on Facebook marketplace shortly after I found out I was pregnant. I had no idea we were having a girl yet and bought it planning to use it in our guest room. But as soon as we found out the gender of our baby, I knew I wanted to use the antique dresser in her room. I love the warmth and femininity it brings to this blue girl’s nursery design. I also really love this dresser for the nursery – it’s gorgeous!
We already had this nursery recliner and swivel rocker from when Dean was a baby. I always just kept it either in his room or in the playroom. We’ve used this nursery rocker recliner for over 4 years now and still really love it! The reclining and swiveling are two features we honestly couldn’t live without, especially for those middle of the night feeding sessions.
The Jenny Lind DaVinci spindle crib I also found as a resale item and saved a few dollars, but the original retail price is so affordable. I loved the spindle crib for a little extra detail in here. We got the light gray color but I also love it in white or black.
Girl’s Nursery Wallpaper
I have to point out the gorgeous wallpaper on the ceiling. I wanted to do a nursery wallpaper but wasn’t sold on doing an accent wall. This was a DIY wallpaper install and true labor of love. One weekend in October, my three aunts, grandma, and mom came to help Dale install it and I couldn’t love it more. I was so grateful for their visit but also that they wanted to help and worked so hard on it.
I’m a lover of all things (slightly) coastal. The neutral shell pattern of our nursery ceiling wallpaper brings just the right amount of coastal feel to the room. It’s a great look-alike for a more expensive designer wallpaper. We finished it off with crown moulding to make it all look really intentional and luxurious. And I love the way this affordable white and gold ceiling fan compliments it too!
Girl’s Nursery Decor Ideas
I wanted to incorporate some pops of pink in our baby girl’s nursery. I never thought I’d have a baby girl (we have a LOT of boys in our family) and wanted to use the opportunity to have some pink in the house! The pink girl’s nursery decor breaks up the monochromatic blue and I love the pops of color. I linked what I could of our baby girl’s nursery decor below. The nursery area rug I bought off of a friend so I can’t link it for you. I found and linked two almost identical nursery area rugs from Loloi that I would have used.
Now that our nursery is finished, I’m looking forward to completing her closet remodel for extra storage space. I’m almost 31 weeks pregnant and starting to get the necessities washed and ready for her arrival!
We’re praying that she comes a little bit early on her own, or I might have a scheduled induction since she is measuring a few weeks ahead. My son came two weeks early and was eight-and-a-half pounds and 21 inches long. We cannot wait to meet this little girl and love on her!
