Thanks so much for being here! I’m in my third trimester of pregnancy and even though our baby’s nursery is fully designed and (almost) complete, I just love designing nurseries so much! I have shopped so many cribs, dressers, rocking chairs, and nursery design details like wallpaper, that I thought I would share a few classic nursery design ideas here. Hopefully they will give you some inspiration as you prepare for your new little bundle of joy.
Heads up, all of these design boards are fully shoppable. I’ve placed links for each item below each design board to make it easy for you to recreate the space, or to mix and match these classic nursery pieces! (I will receive a small commission if you shop using my links.)
Classic Nursery Design Ideas
I love designing a classic nursery for baby boys and baby girls. There’s something about creating a timeless, calming space that really makes me feel ready for bringing a new baby into the world. I think a nursery should be calming for both baby and parents! Our baby’s nursery design reveal is coming soon to the blog and I can’t wait to share it with you. It’s a little unique but still a classic nursery design with beautiful details.
Another important part of designing a nursery (or any room) is to showcase your personal style in your baby’s nursery. That’s why these designs start with the basics (wall color, rugs, furniture) and allow space for you to put in your own personal touch. If you need any help with selecting the details for styling, please reach out to me! I love helping style and decorate and may even be opening up some design services for that in the near future.
Baby Boy Nursery Design
I love the mixture of navy, black, and ivory here. This area rug brings gorgeous texture to the room and I love that the dresser is a classic piece that can be used for many years. The crib has just a bit of flair to it but is still a nice timeless crib. I also love the Pottery Barn look-alike ABC rug (my son has it in his big boy room). The throw pillow and wood arch mirror bring a little bit of warmth to the color palette. The wall color here is Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore and it is my favorite navy paint color for any space in the home.
Baby Girl Nursery Idea
I absolutely love this gold upholstered crib for a baby girl and I love how beautifully it coordinates with this round mirror and chandelier. The pink modern dresser is such a cute piece that becomes a point of interest in this nursery design. I love the mixed prints with this subtle neutral wallpaper and the blue rug. However you could definitely do a neutral rug in this baby girl nursery as well if you don’t want to mix blue and pink.
Boy’s Adventure Nursery Design
This boy’s adventure nursery design is still pretty subtle and classic. If you wanted more of an adventure theme, I would recommend maybe getting some national parks wall art or airplane sculptures for styling. I love the green dresser and natural wood crib in this boy’s nursery design idea. And I really love the plaid wallpaper – either as an accent above a millwork treatment or on the ceiling as a point of interest.
Classic Whimsical Nursery Design for Baby Girl
This nursery area rug is a little bit bohemian and whimsical but I think pairing it with the black crib and natural wood dresser makes it feel classic. I love this pillow-back nursery rocker recliner. It looks very comfortable and it comes with the matching ottoman.
Boy’s Mid-Century Classic Nursery
I love this navy area rug so much we recently put it in my son’s big boy bedroom. It’s a classic navy plaid which I think compliments the green crib and walnut mid-century dresser. This classic boy’s nursery design is so gorgeous it makes me want to have another baby boy! I love the black antique mirror to tone down the mid-century feel in here. The Long Live Boyhood banner is so cute too and it does come in other colors.
Blue Girl’s Nursery Design
I love an unexpected design twist so using blue for a girl’s nursery is right up my alley. I think a blue girl’s nursery is classic and timeless, and also isn’t what you see all the time which is nice. The blue floral area rug is gorgeous and looks so pretty with the gold crib and white dresser. I bought this acrylic and gold affordable arch mirror for our baby’s nursery and absolutely love it. And the beaded chandelier provides a little bit more texture and warmth with the natural wood. The wall color in this room is French Toile by Benjamin Moore.
These pieces are all classic and timeless so they could all definitely be mixed and matched.
