High-End in Hochatown

high end in Hochatown

This is not a paid post but we were allowed the opportunity to stay at the Vail’s Bluff Cabin in Hochatown free of cost, in return for this blog post and marketing photos!

Hey friends! Last week, Dale and I had the opportunity to get away, just the two of us, to Hochatown, Oklahoma. I’m going to be really honest and say I had never even heard of Hochatown before we started planning our trip. I had a pretty good idea that there wouldn’t be anything quite “my style” there. (I had heard of Broken Bow and Beaver’s Bend State park.) I knew there were several cabins down near Beaver’s Bend, and I knew that my husband was itching to get down there to fish and hike.

Here’s another moment of honesty: I really don’t have a huge passion for either of those things. I actually do like hiking, but the only times Dale has tried to take me hiking were in the Rocky Mountains so naturally the altitude was a little too much for me. ANYWAY, I basically didn’t have a huge desire to go down to Hochatown and stay in a log cabin and “rough it”. At least, that’s what I thought I’d be doing based on what I thought I knew about this area of Oklahoma.

I couldn’t have been more wrong! Actually, if it had been completely up to Dale, we probably would have been in a log cabin or even camping in an actual tent (what??!). That would not fly with me. I’m the girl who stopped wanting to go to summer camp when I was 12 because it was hot and buggy and I just wanted to go home. So I did a little digging and found a place that would be a great compromise!

I think you can see the relief on my face – this is my kind of “cabin” if we’re going to be in the woods!

GLAMCATIONS

Glamcations is a beautiful newer brand of luxury vacation rentals based in Hochatown, Oklahoma. (They do also have a location in Tulum, Mexico – I wouldn’t mind going there either!) Immediately when I saw photos of the all-white, luxury resort cabins, I knew I had to take this trip. I’m a sucker for black windows, white shiplap, and modern finishes.

Welcome to our house… just kidding. But now we’re seriously considering building a luxury cabin in Hochatown!
Total relaxation mode. Even though this was a nice getaway I was trying to get work done and this guy is the ultimate trooper for always helping me do my thing!
Who wouldn’t want to enjoy their morning coffee in this beautiful atmosphere?

We stayed at the Vail’s Bluff Romantic Luxury Farmhouse, which is the perfect location for a romantic getaway. Every little detail about this place is luxurious, right down to the carefully curated bathroom toiletries. I knew I would survive a few days of being semi-outdoorsy if I could come back to unwind in a space like this – totally my vibe. The location is great because you can easily get into town to eat at the various restaurants, visit the breweries and wineries, or do a little shopping (I’ll list everything we did below).

It shouldn’t surprise you that we spent most of our time outside on this deck – especially in the hot tub! It was so relaxing and you can’t beat being surrounded by beautiful fall foliage.

Or, if you don’t feel like leaving, you can cook dinner in the kitchen or outside on the grill. Right below the house is a flowing creek – and the sound of the water is so relaxing while you’re sitting on the chaise lounge chairs out on the deck. We fully enjoyed hopping into the hot tub and watching a little bit of Netflix in the evenings before heading to bed. It was so relaxing!

Some of the Amenities:

The incredibly comfortable king-sized bed is located in the master-suite loft above the living area. The bathroom in the loft is complete with his-and-her sink areas, and a shower with dual shower heads. There is even a mini-fridge and a K-Cup coffee maker right there in the bathroom to make your mornings blissful. There are also indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and a large outdoor living area complete with hot-tub and TV. Don’t feel like you can’t have a campfire and make s’mores- there’s firewood and a fire pit already waiting for you right outside! You can read more about the amenities (and book your stay) here, on the Vail’s Bluff Air-BNB site.

Here’s another really cool thing about Glamcations: this cabin was sketched, designed, and built the owners! AND the owner who dreamt this all up wants to help you find your own little slice of heaven in Hochatown. Monica Maynard Wood is a licensed Real Estate Broker (in both Texas and Oklahoma) and has dreams of helping people build or buy their own luxury (or log, if you prefer) cabin in Hochatown! You can get her information here on her website!

All the cozy, romantic vibes – Under Armor socks and all – ha!

Things To Do In Hochatown:

There are TONS of things you can do in and around Hochatown. First of all, Monica has a list of her favorite places and things to do right on the Vail’s Bluff Air-BNB page, so that was very helpful when it came to planning our trip. I also had several friends who have visited Hochatown recently and they gave me their input as well! (Actually, most of their recommendations were ALSO Monica’s recommendations so I knew they must be good!) Here’s what we did in the two days (total) that we were there!

Eateries:

  • The Blue Rooster – We stopped at this southern eatery for lunch and it was probably my favorite. The decor is a little rustic farmhouse and it was just so cool. It’s totally family-friendly and like most other restaurants in the area, it has a patio dining area as well as indoor dining. We had fried pickles and jalapeños for an appetizer (YUM!). Then, we followed with splitting a basket of catfish and fries. The catfish was DELICIOUS and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. You can visit their Facebook page for the hours and more information!
  • Shuck Me (Oysters, Shrimp, & Fish) – This place was pretty good. I had catfish and shrimp (I had fried catfish twice on this trip, don’t judge – it just sounded good!), and Dale had shrimp and fried oysters. The vibe in here is pretty cool (fishing/ocean themed). Out back is connected to a winery and brewery and a little outdoor concert venue which is a pretty cool setup! Visit their webpage here!
  • Grateful Head Pizza- Okay I may have lied earlier – THIS was definitely my favorite meal of our trip. I had an absolutely DELICIOUS salad (the ingredients tasted so fresh) to start, then we had garlic cheesy bread (OMG) and followed up with a meat-lovers pizza called the Dire Wolf. This pizza was some of the best I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot because I am a pizza lover! Grateful Head also had the BEST patio – multilevel and fantastic atmosphere. It’s also filled with Grateful Dead Memorabilia if you’re a fan! If you’re in Broken Bow, or near Beavers Bend State Park, you HAVE to check this place out.
  • We also loved Rolling Fork Takery, which we hit up for lunch on our way out of town. You can dine in or carry out and everything is farm-to-fork! We had some really good jalapeño deviled eggs and I had beef sliders, while Dale had a Reuben sandwich. It was delicious and the staff was SO friendly and welcoming!
Just enjoying my morning coffee, and daydreaming, and thinking about how I don’t want to go back home (except to see my son, I guess).

Other things to do:

  • Visit wineries and breweries! We visited on a Sunday-Tuesday so one of the places we wanted to try (The Knotted Rope Winery) was closed when we happened to stop by. But we also visited Beavers Bend Brewery (our favorite), Mountain Fork Brewery, and Girls Gone Wine (Dale was a trooper). There’s just something cool about trying locally brewed beer and wine! Mountain Fork Brewery is more of a brew-pub so it is family friendly and you can grab a bite to eat while you’re there! It also has a great patio. Girls Gone Wine has free tastings right there in the tasting room (you can also wander around and shop TONS of great gift items), and then you can choose your glass of wine or buy a bottle to take home.
  • Get some coffee at Okie Girls Coffee and do a little souvenir shopping! We stopped by several shops but my favorites were Hochatime and Cornbread Trading Co. (which is right next door to the Blue Rooster). They had the best souvenirs and gift items for those who didn’t get to make the trip to Hochatown with you!
  • Go for a hike or go fishing, or heck, just go EXPLORE! I’m not super outdoorsy but I do love seeing the beauty in nature. We drove around Beaver’s Bend State Park just to see all of the fall foliage (we came at the PERFECT time of year if you ask me) and views! But I also really enjoyed getting out and hiking along the river while Dale fished. It is just such a beautiful area and the trees and wildlife make it peaceful and magical.
  • I should also mention there is a golf course, in case you’re into golfing! We didn’t get to do that this time, but next time we visit we’ll be sure to bring our clubs!
My hiking buddy! Maybe next time I’ll try out fly fishing!
Does this lake make me look outdoorsy? All the “heart-eyes” for Beavers Bend State Park. I want to come back every year for the fall foliage!

Need a Getaway? Visit Hochatown!

Safe to say this is EXACTLY the type of experience we both needed for our first kid-free getaway. I could have a little bit of luxury (hello, hot tub, wine and shopping) and Dale could do his thing and enjoy being in the outdoors. And if I’m being honest, I fully enjoyed hiking through the woods in a place this beautiful. There’s truly something for everyone here- there’s nothing like it! It’s the best of both worlds and it made our first adults-only getaway so perfect.

The perfect fishing spot! If only there were fish…
