I’ve officially made it to the third trimester and figured it’s about time to give you all an update on this pregnancy! I can’t believe I’m 28 weeks along already. Dean came early at 38 weeks so if history is any indication I could have about 10 weeks left of this pregnancy!
Today I’m sharing my maternity must-haves and a third trimester update for you all. I haven’t bought a ton of stuff for pregnancy (spending too much on the baby already!). These items have been great and I’m not sure what I would do without them, so I had to share them with you. Here are my maternity must-haves. Be sure to read through to get an update on my pregnancy!
If you’re looking for some cute maternity wear, I recently posted some really cute fall maternity dresses here!
Maternity Must-Haves
Pregnancy Pillow
Okay top of my maternity must-haves list: a good pregnancy pillow. When I was pregnant with Dean a friend of mine loaned me a C-shaped pregnancy pillow and it was a game changer! So this time around, I ordered this fridaMom pregnancy pillow right off the bat to make sure I was sleeping as good as possible.
This pregnancy support pillow has been easy to move around in the middle of the night and can accommodate any pregnancy-safe sleep position. It takes the pressure off of my hips and knees and keeps my body in proper alignment. If I’m laying in bed watching TV, I even fold the pillow in half and put it under my knees to prop my legs up a little bit. I love that it’s easy to wash the cover too. I have been happy with both types of pregnancy pillows, so I would recommend either the fridaMom or a larger C-shaped pregnancy pillow.
Best Pregnancy Belly Oil
Another one of my pregnancy must-haves is belly oil. My skin was getting so dry as it stretched with my growing bump. My mother-in-law gifted me this belly oil during my pregnancy with Dean and I immediately reordered for this pregnancy. I love the soothing scent of this maternity belly oil, but if you prefer unscented I would suggest this belly oil for pregnancy. My recommendation is to put it on right after a shower so your skin stays soft and hydrated. It has definitely helped me and that’s why it made my list of maternity must-haves!
Maternity Must-Haves: Prenatal Vitamin
Of course a good prenatal vitamin is a must. Talk to your doctor about which type of prenatal vitamins or supplements are best for you! I have really loved the Olly gummy prenatal vitamin because it sits easier on my stomach. The Ritual vegan prenatal vitamin is good too as long as I take them before bed!
Satin Sleep Mask
I JUST started using this satin sleep mask this week and it has totally changed the game for me. If you’re waking up a lot at night (to use the bathroom or because a certain 4-year-old is coming to climb in bed with you…) this sleep eye mask will help you get RIGHT back to sleep. At first I was skeptical that I’d be able to sleep with something on my face. But the very first night I used it, I slept like a baby so I’m adding it to my maternity must-haves list.
This sleep mask makes me fall asleep SO much faster. Probably because it limits stimulation by lights or things I can see in our room. This will be a must-have for those early newborn days as well with middle-of-the-night feedings because it helps me get (back) to sleep so quickly!
Face Sunscreen
I never go a day without SPF on my face, even if it’s the middle of winter or I don’t plan on being outside. Pregnancy drastically increasing your hormones and melanin levels. So it’s so important to wear SPF especially on your face to prevent melasma! Melasma is the raccoon mask of darker sun spots you might get as a result of hormones and sun exposure, so it’s best to also wear a hat if you’re going to be outside. I have loved this daily SPF 46 for my face!
Maternity Must-Have Leggings
I was pregnant in the middle of the summer with Dean and still loved my maternity leggings. They definitely meet the criteria for maternity must-haves! I recently got this pair of faux leather Spanx maternity leggings and can’t live without them. They are so comfortable, flattering, and stylish. I can wear a maternity sweater or top with a duster cardigan with these faux leather maternity leggings and be comfortable and still look cute!
Third Trimester Update
I just recently hit the 28 week mark and I’m so excited to being closer to meeting our new baby! I’m also excited to finish the nursery soon and share the gender with you all. We recently did maternity photos with our favorite OK photographer last time we were in Tulsa and I love how they turned out. I cannot wait to snuggle this baby!
I recently passed my glucose test! We celebrated all last weekend with lots of carbs and yummy food. I failed my first glucose test with Dean and had to take the 3-hour test (which was not fun). Maybe I should blame it on the Subway lunch I had right before the test (whoops). So I was SO relieved to pass the first test this time around.
My bi-weekly doctor visits start next week. They’ll be doing ultrasounds every time (or every other?) to monitor for clotting since I had COVID pre-pregancy and had post-partum preeclampsia with Dean. It puts my mind at ease that they are taking such good care of us. I’m excited to see how the baby has changed and grown since our last ultrasound at 20 weeks!
Nesting Energy
So far I’m feeling great and have a good amount of energy which is great for nesting. My aunts, mom, and grandma came up a couple of weekends ago to visit. They also helped Dale install a wallpaper on the ceiling of the nursery and it looks even better than I pictured it. All of the pieces for styling the nursery have been arriving this week. Styling is my favorite part of designing a room and I’ve often thought lately about starting an interior decorating business. My nesting instinct is strong right now and am hoping to do two more small house projects after the nursery is completed. Call me crazy. I’m sure Dale is ready for my nesting to be over already.
I was getting a lot of typical pregnancy hip and joint paint, but I think my Chiropractor visits are really helping with the pain I had been feeling. We have a LOT of stairs in our house so even just walking around the house quite a bit is a good exercise. I actually read recently that you should avoid excessive stairs after giving birth and that made me laugh. Maybe we’ll build an indoor slide…? Neighborhood walks have also been keeping me active while Dean is at school. If you have any good podcast recommendations, send me a DM on Instagram. I’m always looking for something to listen to while I walk.
Birth Plan
One thing causing me a bit of anxiety right now are figuring out what in the world we’re going to do with Dean when we have to head to the hospital. We don’t know many people here so it’s not like our last go around at all. Our game plan is for my mom to head up from Tulsa as soon as I have signs of labor. I’m just hoping I have a decent amount of warning since it’s a 4-hour drive! One of Dean’s sweet teachers volunteered to take him home from school in case I go into labor and can’t be there for pickup. What an angel!
I’m really hoping I go into labor right after Christmas while everyone is off for the holidays. Once we get a few backup plans in place for taking care of Dean I will feel better! And I know that nothing will probably go as planned anyway and we will just have to figure it out as it happens.
Can’t Wait to Meet Baby!
With the holidays coming I know that this last trimester is about to FLY by so I’m trying to soak in all of the baby kicks and movements. I’m love being pregnant. It’s definitely hard but so rewarding. We aren’t sure if this will be our last baby or not so I’m just trying to slow down and not take this time for granted. We can’t wait to meet this baby!
