A stocking stuffers guide was one of my most requested blog posts for the season and I can understand why! Stocking stuffers can be so overwhelming when you’re trying to plan what to get for whom. And for me it’s important to be strategic so that I don’t overspend.
This is the way I approach it: I usually have an idea of a big gift first. Then I find all the fun little things that can go in a stocking later. That can also lead to procrastination and having to get lots of little things all at once! So I’m trying to be better about it this year and get all of the stockings taken care of early.
Staple Pieces in the Stockings
For stocking stuffers, I have my standard items that my family gets every year. Everyone usually gets something cozy like socks or gloves. I also put in some type of skin care, and Burts’ Bees, because these are things that everyone needs…even the men! I have never seen my husband actually buy Burts’ Bees but he definitely uses it all year.
One tradition in my family is that stockings always have candy in the bottom. My parents would always put our favorite chocolate candy in our stockings (usually Reese’s for me). We would promptly eat several pieces of it, even before breakfast.
Those things are the staple pieces…the things that will be in the stocking every year. Those things might be enough by themselves, but I also like to tuck in an a few items that are special and unique for each person.
Stress-Free Stockings
I love shopping for stocking stuffers, but it can be stressful when you’ve already got bigger gifts to buy. I’ve linked some items that may or may not appear in my family’s stockings this year (in case they are reading this). Hopefully this will give you inspiration for your family too!
