Have you ever wondered how to style your entryway? An entryway is the first thing your guests see when they enter your home and the last before they leave, so the details matter. After all, it’s the first and last impression your guest will get from your home. I want our entryway to feel peaceful, pretty, and welcoming.

Nothing will embarrass me more than clutter when we have an unexpected guest arrive. I always want to make sure the entryway is completely clear of clutter. The simpler, the better. So I typically am pretty minimalistic in the foyer.

How To Style Your Entryway

I think it’s always a good idea to have either a bench or a table in the entry. This will act as an anchor for the rest of the decor. If space allows, a bench and a table is a great idea too. I love our foyer table because it fits the space perfectly. It also brings warmth to the entry, and it has two drawers for hiding keys and other things.

Light and bright is always part of my design. I love light spaces but don’t ever want them to feel empty or too big.

Here’s how I styled our console table in our new house! I changed up a few details but I’m still loving the baskets underneath and the gold mirror!

I’ve debated switching out this big gold mirror for a piece of art, but I just haven’t been able to. It’s so nice to have a mirror by the front door. First of all, it bounces light around, which can make your home look bright and airy from the first glance. Secondly, it allows me to quickly check my appearance before I answer the door- ha! It’s also a great focal point. I think mirrors can help people to feel more comfortable in a home, and they make small spaces like entryways feel larger!

Another detail that really makes sense in an entryway is a catch-all tray or bowl. I love our gold tray because it gives a little pop of warmth, even though it houses this wooden bead garland instead of keys. Coffee table books are another great option, along with a bowl of faux limes.

I love mixing this gold metal with the natural warmth of the wood. These are the details that make me happy!

Faux Greenery in the Entryway

Greenery is a must in an entry. Having some sort of plant in the entryway (faux or real) brings life to the space, and makes the entry feel so inviting. I would honestly love to have fresh flowers here every week, but I just can’t keep up with that. Usually if there’s a special occasion I will try to put out a vase of flowers. For every day, I love this little faux fig tree for year-round color.

If you’ve got an entryway console table, you’ll likely have room for a lamp. I love having a lamp near the door so we can leave it on if we’re gone.

This is technically a “progress” picture – before I switched out the lamp for a larger style, and added the gold tray and pillows. Still beautiful, but those extra little details did make a difference!

Entryway Storage

In this space below the entryway table (or any empty space for that matter), a large basket or two is the perfect addition. Baskets can function as storage for things like flip flops, hats and gloves, etc. They can also just decorative (toss a pretty throw blanket in and call it good!).

Gallery Wall

Another option for over an entryway bench would be a gallery wall full of professional family photos. I love these black gallery frames for a bit of contrast and this gorgeous entryway rug. The gallery wall really shows off the height of the entry way walls. If you’ve ever wanted to know how to create a gallery wall of your own, I have a post on how to create a gallery wall.

Functional Decor

You may want to add a few more details to your foyer out of necessity. Functional decor is definitely okay! If you live in an area where you get a lot of wet weather, you may need to add a coat rack, an umbrella holder, or a boot mat.

I’m still a little undecided about the pillows in this basket, but for now they will do the trick!

I still think I will constantly be tweaking design details in our entryway and in every room of our house. But that’s part of the fun for me. I hope you got some ideas for your own foyer decor or entryway spaces. You can also head to my Instagram entry way post to leave a comment!

Love this so much! I read a book called Home Sweet Madison (yes I’m a dork like that) and it’s all about how the French decorate their entry way to show their life and their lives!
